Rugby on LiveCup: full support for 15s and Sevens
We've launched a dedicated rugby module — real scoring, sin-bin countdowns, and bonus points calculated automatically.
Rugby plays by its own rules, and for a long time organisers had to make do with tools built for football or basketball. As of today, 19 May 2026, we're shipping a module that takes rugby seriously — from try-and-conversion scoring, through a live sin-bin countdown, to bonus points and a standings table with tries scored as the tiebreaker. Scoring the rugby way
A try is five points, a conversion two, a penalty and drop goal three each — and that's exactly how LiveCup counts, without any manual corrections. After you tap a try, a conversion popup appears immediately, just like on the pitch.
The popup auto-closes after 45 seconds, in line with the rugby laws of the game — if the kicker doesn't make it, the system records the attempt as missed and returns to live play. The operator doesn't need to remember anything beyond what's happening on the pitch.
Sin-bin and bonus points
A yellow card starts the sin-bin countdown — ten minutes in 15s, two minutes in Sevens. Both the operator panel and the public spectator view show the time remaining, so nobody is left guessing when a player is coming back. A red card stays visible for the rest of the match as a permanent exclusion.
We calculate bonus points automatically per World Rugby rules — plus one for scoring four or more tries, plus one for losing by seven points or fewer. The group standings show dedicated BP-T and BP-L columns, and thresholds can be overridden if your tournament runs on slightly different settings.
Presets and tournament configuration
When you set up a tournament, you pick the Rugby Union 15s or Sevens preset and every value — sin-bin duration, bonus point thresholds, match length, point system — loads automatically. Both classic 4/2/0 and alternative 3/2/1 systems are supported.
Every value can be overridden. Running a youth tournament with shorter halves or a local format with custom rules? Change only what you need; the rest stays on the preset defaults.
TV view for spectators
RugbyLayout is a dedicated screen layout designed for the TV or projector in the clubhouse. It shows a big score, per-team try counters, disciplinary cards and bonus point status — all in plain language, not insider's tables.
If multiple matches are running on different pitches at the same time, the view rotates between active matches every ten, twenty, thirty or sixty seconds. After a fresh event — a try or a card — the rotation pauses for fifteen seconds so spectators have time to see what just happened.

Operator panel and match history
Mistakes happen — you'll tap a try twice, or give the yellow card to the wrong player. In the operator panel, you'll find a full match history sorted newest first, with a hover-to-delete X button on every entry.
The match clock supports play, pause and reset, and you can edit the time directly by tapping on it and typing a new value in MM:SS format, e.g. 65:30. The default limit is eighty minutes for 15s and fourteen for Sevens — once exceeded, the clock turns red so it's clear you're into stoppage time.

Frequently asked questions
Does the module support both Rugby Union and Sevens?
Yes, both formats have separate presets. For 15s the sin-bin lasts ten minutes and the match eighty; for Sevens it's two and fourteen respectively — and values can be overridden.
How does the sin-bin work in practice?
On a yellow card you tap the player and the system starts the countdown automatically. The time is visible in the operator panel and on the public spectator view, and the entry disappears once the penalty ends.
How are bonus points calculated?

Is the rugby module free?
Yes, the entire module is available on the free plan, which covers one active tournament of up to 4 teams; bigger tournaments need a paid plan.
Can LiveCup handle a large tournament with multiple pitches?
Yes — the platform is designed for multi-pitch tournaments. Each pitch has its own operator panel, and the TV view rotates between active matches automatically. It scales from a handful of teams to a full rugby festival.
Can I edit an event after I add it?
Yes — the operator panel keeps a full match history sorted newest first. Hover an event and a delete X appears. Once removed, the score and stats recalculate immediately.
How do I get started?
Sign up for a free account, choose "Rugby" as the sport in the tournament wizard, then pick the 15s or Sevens preset. Add teams via QR code or manually from the dashboard — then you're ready to run matches.
