8 new team sports, one tournament app

Floorball, netball, field hockey, lacrosse, water polo, korfball, ultimate frisbee and dodgeball now have their own scoring, standings and landing pages in LiveCup.

Your school wants a floorball day, the office league voted for dodgeball, and the club pool is free on Saturday. Until now you would have picked a generic sport and fixed the points by hand. LiveCup now has eight more team sports with the right points, match length and wording built in, so you can go from a list of teams to groups, a knockout and a live results page in a few minutes.

Pick the sport, skip the setup

Choose one of the new sports in the tournament wizard and LiveCup fills in the defaults for that game: points for a win, a draw and a loss, and a sensible match length. You can still change any of them if your league plays by house rules.

Each default follows the usual rules of the sport. Floorball, field hockey and water polo give 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Netball and korfball give 2 for a win and 1 for a draw. Lacrosse and ultimate frisbee give 2 for a win and 0 for a draw. Dodgeball gives 3 for a win and 1 for a draw.

One more change: the old "Hockey" option is now called Ice Hockey, so it no longer gets mixed up with field hockey. Existing ice hockey tournaments keep working as they are.

Stick and goal sports: floorball, field hockey and lacrosse

Floorball is built for school gyms and company nights. Matches default to 30 minutes, a win is 3 points, a draw is 1, and a win in overtime is worth 2 with 1 for the overtime loss. That is a common scoring system in floorball leagues, and the table follows it.

Field hockey defaults to 60 minutes with 3, 1 and 0 points. Lacrosse defaults to 48 minutes with 2 points for a win and none for a draw or a loss. Once rosters are on, the match page also keeps each sport's discipline record; see the section on sport-specific match events below.

Add rosters and you can credit goals to players, which also fills the top scorers list. Rosters are part of a paid or premium tournament; the groups, knockout and live results are not.

Water polo: pools, not pitches

Water polo defaults to 32 minutes with 3, 1 and 0 points, and the venue is called a pool, not a pitch or a court. If you have two pools, you can assign each match to one on the PRO plan, and the schedule shows where every team has to be.

Yellow and red cards work here too once rosters are on (like scorers), so the referee table can keep a record on the match page instead of on paper.

Netball and korfball: court sports without cards

Netball defaults to 40 minutes and korfball to 50, both with 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Neither sport uses cards in LiveCup, so the match page stays clean: score, status and start time.

Both are often played in mixed or school groups, which is exactly where a live table helps. Parents and players can open the link, find their team and see the next match without asking the organizer.

If your sports hall has several courts, assigning matches to courts is part of the PRO plan.

Ultimate frisbee: win or lose

Ultimate frisbee defaults to 90 minutes with 2 points for a win and none for a draw or a loss. Enter the final score of each game and the table does the rest. A pickup tournament on a Sunday is the same setup as a full league: groups first, then a knockout for the top teams.

Dodgeball: score by games won

Dodgeball works a little differently. The score of a match is the number of games each team won, for example 2:1. A match defaults to 20 minutes with 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw.

Dodgeball does not get a separate match page, scorers or cards. You enter the result from the match list, and the schedule, standings and bracket update from there. For a lunch-break league that is all you need.

Sport-specific match events

When you log a goal in floorball, field hockey, lacrosse, water polo, ultimate or ice hockey, you can pick the player who assisted. The top-assists table shows each player's goals, assists and points (goals plus assists), sorted by points. The top-scorers table stays as it was. Assists, like scorers, need rosters, which come with a paid plan or a premium tournament.

Discipline follows the sport. Field hockey has green cards (2 minutes), yellow cards (5 minutes) and red cards. Floorball and ice hockey use timed suspensions of 2, 5 or 10 minutes and red cards instead of yellow cards. Water polo has 20-second exclusions plus yellow and red cards, and lacrosse has 1 and 2 minute suspensions plus yellow and red cards. Green cards and suspensions get their own marker on the match page and a column in the cards table.

There is no live countdown for suspensions. LiveCup does not run a shared match clock, so a timer on the screen could show the wrong time whenever play stops. The match page shows the length of each suspension, and the minute it started if the scorer entered one.

Ultimate frisbee adds Spirit of the Game. After a match, the organiser enters the Spirit score (0 to 20) each team received from its opponent. The standings and results pages show a Spirit ranking with the average score each team received and the number of matches rated. It never changes the standings, it also shows for knockout and double-elimination events, and it is free on every plan.

What stays the same in every sport

All eight sports use the same tools you already know. Run a league, or groups followed by a knockout. Share one live link so players and parents can follow results on their phones. Put the standings and bracket on a TV with the TV mode. Collect teams through a QR code instead of a spreadsheet.

Plan the numbers before you pick a format. Tournaments with five or more teams are where groups and a knockout start to pay off. Our guide to groups and knockout shows how many teams per group and how many qualify.

New team sports FAQ

Which sports are new in LiveCup?

Floorball, netball, field hockey, lacrosse, water polo, korfball, ultimate frisbee and dodgeball. Each one has its own default points, match length and a landing page that explains how to run it.

Can I change the points and match length?

Yes. The defaults are a starting point. You can change the points for a win, a draw and a loss, and the match length, before you generate the schedule.

How does floorball overtime scoring work?

By default a regulation win gives 3 points and a draw gives 1. A win in overtime gives 2 points and an overtime loss gives 1. The standings use these values automatically.

Which of these sports record cards or suspensions?

Field hockey (green, yellow and red cards), lacrosse and water polo (timed suspensions or exclusions plus yellow and red cards) and floorball (timed suspensions and red cards instead of yellow cards). Netball, korfball, ultimate frisbee and dodgeball do not use cards in LiveCup.

Can I record who scored?

Yes, if the tournament has rosters. Scorers need a roster, and rosters are part of a paid or premium tournament. Without rosters you still enter the score and the table works as usual. Dodgeball has no scorers.

How does dodgeball scoring work?

The result of a match is the number of games each team won, such as 2:1. You enter it from the match list, and the standings and bracket update. There is no separate match page for dodgeball.

What happened to the Hockey option?

It is now called Ice Hockey, so it is clear that field hockey is a separate sport. Your existing ice hockey tournaments are not affected.
